YES, IT IS TRUE, REGISTRATION FOR THE MAY 26TH PROGRESSIVE DINNER BY BICYCLE RIDE IS OPEN.
Our successful fundraiser is back and ya’ll really should get in on this. We will be doing three rides this year – May 26th, July 14th and Sept 15th. As mentioned above you can register now for the May ride in a few ways.
1) Sign up just for the May ride as an Omnivore or Vegan ($30/ticket). Make sure to purchase the correct ticket depending on your dietary concerns. If you have any questions, get in contact with us.
2) Buy a ticket for the Dinner Club. The Dinner Club costs most ($75/ticket), but joining the Dinner Club gets you into all three Progressive Dinner rides this year (a $90 value!). So if you plan on doing some riding and some chowing down, why not save a few bucks ahead of time?

For those of you that have ridden with us before: The May ride will be starting a little bit earlier. We will be gathering at 11am and leaving around 11:30am as we have to get to our first stop at noon. I imagine everything will be wrapping up around 5pm as opposed to 7 or 8pm as in the past.

For folks that have never gone on this journey with us: The Progressive Dinner by Bicycle rides are leisurely rides around the city totaling about 15 miles with steps every few miles to grab some food. The ticket price pays for your food with the rest of the proceeds going to fund Back Alley Bikes youth educational programming. Also, it is so much fun. Just look again at that photo above. Good times.
What you will need for the ride:
1) Pr-registration a week in advance. Sorry, we can’t sell tickets day of as we need an accurate count to let our food vendors know how much to prepare. If you want to avoid the online fees or if you don’t like paying with a credit card, contact the Back Alley Bikes office to arrange another payment.2) A working bicycle. Sorry, we don’t have any loaners for the ride. So make sure your bike works in advance. We’ll help you put some air in the tires and such, but on the day of we won’t have mechanic time. (We suggest dropping your bike off for a tune up at The Hub of Detroit sooner than later).
3) Recommended: A water bottle full of water. Your price of the ticket includes food, but since we are on the go we can’t really provide drinks. Occasionally food vendors will offer sodas at an additional cost, but having a water bottle on your bike full of water is the best way to go.
4) Recommended: Some extra cash. In relation to above, sometimes our food vendors offer some extras. If you wanna buy some drinks or extra snacks, it is good to have some cash on you.
5) Recommended: A helmet. We don’t require helmets for our ride, but…they are highly recommended. Crashes happen occasionally and it can’t hurt to be wearing a Styrofoam hat.
6) Recommended: A lock. At the stops where we go indoors, we will have someone watch the bicycles outside, but a lock gives some extra security. Also, you’ll need that when you go for a ride later with your new friends you met during the ride!
