“Dear Everyone at The Hub of Detroit,

The weeks have come and gone, and my semester is nearing its end. It’s hard to believe how far away that first day I came up those stairs from the Back Alley Bikes entrance is.

At first, I didn’t really know what to expect. I wasn’t entirely sure of what I could do to help. However, it didn’t take long before those Wednesday visits to The Hub became something I looked forward to each week. It seemed like I was working on something different every time I came, even though I’d still be working on that same computer. It was never a boring day, that’s for sure. More often than not, I ended up learning something new as well.

I still remember one particular day I came in. Some trifold leaflets that were designed from the template I had created were being printed out. Joe explained it all to me, how my template was used to make what was coming out of the printer, and he also passed along the thank-yous that were given to him for me. I felt really touched to know how much I had helped. Something I had made could assist The Hub, and not only with that one brochure, but for the other possible ones that could be made in the future from the template. It seemed like I had done something huge to help out from something that appeared so small to me. Maybe it wasn’t so little after all.

I didn’t really get to know many of you, and I wish I had. However, I have a feeling that this won’t be the last time we meet. Although I can’t be for sure what will happen in my life or which roads I’ll end up taking, I have a feeling I’ll make it back to this bike path again, even if it’s only for a visit. From my time at The Hub, I’ve gained something I can’t exactly put my finger on. Perhaps it can be best described as a new perspective in life of what I can do and what that can possibly do for others. Also I think I’ve become a better person because of it.  For that, all of your kindness, and everything you have done for me through this short time, I thank you.

Sincerely,

Stacy”
