So you think it is cold out and the “biking season” is over? That is funny. That is funny because you are wrong. So much to do, so many miles to ride and so much fun to be had! Here are some updates:
Last Friday’s scrap day was a success! We scrapped around 3 tons of metal and made almost $600. That money will most likely be going towards an end of the year volunteer thank you gala! Do you know of a good place to host such an event? Let me know (jason[at]thehubofdetroit[dot]org).
With that scrap out of the way we have more jobs to do! We are done with stripping bikes for parts. These parts need to be sorted so we can start putting them on bikes! That is right, we need volunteers to assist with building up bikes. Why? That is a silly question, we need these bikes built so people will ride them. I want our next scrap day to be smaller. Less bikes scrapped and more people riding around Detroit!
To build bikes you need to go through our tool orientation or I’m not letting you touch our tools. Them is the rules. The good news is that our next orientation is Wednesday, November 3rd at 6pm.
If you can’t make the orientation or don’t want to build bikes, that is fine. We need those parts sorted and now that we have more room in our warehouse space we really need to organize things back there. Come help us out!
Calling All Welders: We have welding equipment. This stuff is serious so we aren’t going to let just anyone use it. However, we aren’t going to hold this stuff ransom like it shouldn’t be shared. We are a community space, so lets get some people using this stuff.
Before we can do that though we need to develop an orientation for folks. So if you have formal welding education and would like to help us with that please let us know. Get more people riding bikes and get more welders building wild bikes to be ridden!
Repeat: End of the year gala: I mentioned it above, but I repeat – at the close of this year I’d like to have a nice little event for all the volunteers of The Hub. If you know of a venue or have ideas of what you would like to see on that night, let me know!
See you all soon,
Jason X
