Calling All Volunteers!!!!
We have a ton of projects going on right now and need your help. There is a project for everyone here…and every experience level. Hopefully one of these needs will be appealing to you and we can get you some volunteer hours…and closer to being a BAB Ally if you aren’t one already. I promised fun will be had and good music will be played during all of these activities.
You can also volunteer for these outside of regular volunteer time. If you are interested in one or more of the below volunteer opportunities, email Mari at onsite@thehubofdetroit.org or call her at (313) 879-5630.
Rubber Recycling
We need a couple of volunteers to help us take our bad tires and tubes to the recycling center. Let me know if you are interested and we will set a date. We have enough rubber to take 2-3 pick up truck loads.
Organizing our Bike Inventory
We are currently in the process of taking an inventory of all of our bikes. This will help us know exactly how many bikes we have at any given time and where they are going. Now that we have a 5019(c)3 this is super helpful information to give to potential funders. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Just a willingness to help us sort, label and track our bikes.
Data Entry – Inventory
Once we have the inventory counted or at least starting to get it processed, we have to enter all this data into our computer. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. This would be a huge help and honestly something you could potentially do from home.
Organizing our 20″ and Smaller Wheels
We have a ton of them…and they are piled everywhere. We need to go through and get rid of the bad wheels and organize the remaining. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
Friday Night Youth Open Shop
We have Youth Open Shop every Friday from 4-7pm. We have been overrun by youth the past three weeks…which is great. The word is out and kids are coming to get their bikes fixed. We would really enjoy having one or two more adult volunteers to help us during this time. You do need a Central Registry Clearance to help with kids. If you don’t have your clearance, let me know and I can email you a form to take to DHS to get you started.
Camp Earn A Bike
Camp EAB started this past week and again we have a ton of kids. If you are available Tuesday through Friday from 9am-12pm or even a portion of that time, we would love your help. Even coming in 1-2 hours would make a huge difference. We have a new group of kids each week and we need to get them through a complete EAB session by Friday each week. It’s rewarding and fun. These kids are great.
Saturday Earn A Bike
Same deal with Saturday EAB. We could definitely use some help with our Saturday sessions that run from 11am-2pm every Saturday. If you can help out, it would be great. You do need your Central Registry Clearance to volunteer with this.
Youth Ride
Our Youth Ride runs every Saturday from 2-5pm. It’s a great time to hang out with kids and ride around the city. You do need your Central Registry Clearance to volunteer with this.
Regular Volunteer Time
As always, we are looking for volunteers to come out and help us on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5-8pm during our regularly scheduled volunteer time. We do a variety of projects during these sessions so come on out and help.
