Hey ya’ll,
I just wanted to post a quick update to thank some volunteers who helped us raise some funds at the end of last week.  All month our volunteer force has been stripping broken bike frames of their usable parts and sorting metal by type.  It isn’t the funnest job there is, but it occasionally has to be done to clean up the shop.  Last Friday Jamie, Heather, Eileen, Beth, Dan and Vic all got together to haul a few hundred pounds of metal to the scrap yard to recycle some of our unusable items.  This not only gave us more space in our warehouse for bikes to be built upon, but raised almost $500 for our programming!

If you are upset about missing your chance to haul around heavy objects and load trucks on an autumn morning or are wondering how you can help raise more funds for the Hub – don’t worry, I got your answer for you.

Going into the winter is a scary time for us because for some reason people stop biking and our cash flow slows up.  We do slow down our programming as well, but that does not mean that we stop.  Our Youth Earn-a-Bike Program is year round, as is our Adult Mechanic Class.  This is why we are talking so much about fund raising lately.

But we understand that not everyone wants to haul scrap or simply give us money, so we have other fun events like a Progressive Dinner by Bike or this Friday’s Benefit Show.  I know that holiday weekends are pretty packed with fun things to do, but why not start it off with a concert at the Hub?  I think it would be a perfect place for critical mass to end their ride really since music won’t start until around 8pm *wink wink*.
Yeah, the concert is going to be upstairs in our warehouse.  It is a cheap $5 to get in and you get to hear 4 great acts (Sagan Youth, Jericho Offriguez, Petal Shop and Audra Kubat).  So come see a good show that just happens to benefit your favorite local bike collective.

See ya’ll there,
Jason x
