Hello my friends,
We took about 80 folks on our first Progressive Dinner by Bicycle event yesterday. The weather was perfect, we were able to make it through Lion’s fan traffic (thanks to the guy in the pickup truck that blocked traffic for us taking that left turn into Eastern Market!) and the food was amazing!
Let me first thank all of the people that donated money to participate in the event. After calculating for cost of food, making fliers, buying supplies and all that, we are just short of $1,000 made from the event. This money will fund an entire 6 months of our Earn-a-Bike program. In other words we raised enough money to fund our youth programming for the entire winter! Thank you!
I got other people to thank though:
– The first stop was made possible by my comrades in the Hub of Detroit Collective as well as our favorite staff members Shayne and Carlisha.
– The second stop was made possible by the hard workers of Pie-Sci who make some amazing pizza. This stop also would have never been possible without our good friends OmniCorp Detroit.
– The third relaxing stop was made possible by our friend Tim (aka Organaman)
– The fourth stop that ran so smoothly was put together by our friends at Neighborhood Noodle.
– The final stop provided a wonderful sweet finish made possible by Suddenly Sauer. Perhaps you also recognized two of my favorite people at this stop: Liz and Vanessa. They were also helping with registration. They are two of the wonderful people that make Fender Bender happen.
Click those links already folks!
So what is next?
Well, as the Hub begins to slow down in fall and winter, we still very much want your money. So I was thinking about having a rock show in our warehouse. If you haven’t seen our big room where we keep and sort donations, it is quite the sight to see. We are going to have to move things around some, but we are going to put bands up there and have a good time.
A few things to note: Back Alley Bikes is an all ages space, so this show will be for folks of all ages. This means we will be maintaining a sober space which is a policy for our space always.
Because of this all ages environment and because we like our neighbors this show is going to be on the early end. Either way, this is going to be an event to be at. Bands will be announced soon, but write this date down:
Rock Concert to benefit The Hub:
Friday, October 28th!
Keep your eyes open for details.
