It was windy, it was cold and it was close to snowing, but some of us got together to talk about things coming up at the Hub. Here are some notes from the meeting so you can join in the fun:

Recap: For those of you that don’t know we had a volunteer “fun night” last week. Basically we set aside volunteering for a night and hung out, ate food, listened to music and raced each other on stationary bikes. Why? Because it is fun and our volunteers put in a lot of hours to help out the shop. If you missed out by not hearing about it, that might be because you haven’t been volunteering lately!
The Hub bought some pizza’s (delivered by Hot Spokes) and the East Side Riders brought some snacks along to share. Thanks go out to everyone that came, but especially ESR for going the extra mile.

Announcement: No volunteering on Thanks For Nothing Week: That Thanksgiving Holiday is coming up. That week (Nov. 24th and 25th) there will be no volunteer nights.

Tire Racks: We are building more tire racks for our warehouse space and wood should be around next week for building. We had people bring saws with them last time to help build. If you wanna help out, let Jason know.
Also, while the space is being built up with racks we also need helpful artistic types to make signs to assist with our bike organization. Jordan is sorting wheels, some of which will be put on racks, some will be stored elsewhere and some will become scrap/art. If you would like to learn more about wheels or assist Jordan, come to a volunteer night!
We also still have many blown out tires that need to be recycled, made into art or made into something useful. Once those are moved and taken care of, we will have a new area for scrap bikes/frames.

Wiring/Lighting in the warehouse: We have had one of our volunteers Paul look over some extra lighting fixtures we have on hand to see what we can use to improve out lighting situation in the warehouse. The next step is to plan how we will set up wiring in the best, most safe possible way. Would you like to help Paul? Let us know.
We need to figure out how these fixtures will be hung and how we will house the wiring around the space. You come up with a plan, and then I’ll find out how much materials cost. If we get the cost approved, we can build it!

Winterizing: We have a large space with old windows that leak out warmth. Luckily we have heat, but we want to make it as efficient as we can so we need help winterizing our windows. We have a few plastic frames built to put over our windows but we need more. If you can help build one, let us know.
Also, we have a lot of old tires and tubes. If you can think of a creative way to winterize with them – get at us.

End of the year Gala: The volunteers brainstormed about what we could do for an end of the year celebration. Here are a few thoughts broken down by category.
Time:
– Sometime in January after the “holiday season.”
– Nights and weekends work best.
– 4-5 hour event possibly starting early so people can “drop-in” to participate in some form of entertainment and then a more formal schedule towards the end with speakers and food.

Entertainment:
– Live Music
– Karaoke
– Speakers (collective members and volunteers)
– Films
– Tour de France blooper reel
– Open Sprints
– Other games

Place:
– Cass Cafe
– CCNDC space
– Burton Theater

Food:
Served by a restaurant/catered or potluck style?

Cost:
Free for volunteers within the past year and $5 for any guests.

Do you have additional thoughts on the year end gala? Let us know.

Hines Park Ride: JJ told everyone about an upcoming bike event. Wednesday, November 17th at Hines Park west of the city, they will be doing their annual “Bike Through The Lights” ride. Check out the link for more info.
