Hey everybody!

Spring is definitely here and people everywhere are dusting their bikes off to get riding again. Well, we are looking for all those youth aged 10-17 to get riding with us. Like last year, we will be having a ride every week throughout the summer. This year though, we are changing our ride program to a club. Yeah, a club.

Why ride alone when you can have a posse?

You are probably thinking: what do you mean a club? Well, youth need to join this club instead of just showing up for the ride. This is really easy, contact jason (at) thehubofdetroit (dot) org to let us know you want to join, or just talk to Back Alley Bike staff during our youth program (chances are we are going to talk to you about it). After that, you will meet with our Youth Ride Club leader and they will make sure you know how to start, stop and use turn signals while riding. This will ensure that all of the youth in the club have the same basic skills before hitting the road.
Once you are in the club you can come ride with us every weekend and have a say in where we go. Also, if you come to a certain number of rides throughout the summer you can get a prize (like a multi-tool to fix your bike while out on the road). We have plans for the rides to go through August 31st, but maybe you’ll have different ideas: want the ride club to go longer? You’ll have to join and give your input.

Helmets are required for all Youth Ride Club rides.

Is this making sense? Are you interested? Got more questions? Why don’t you come to a meeting about the ride club on May 4th to get more info. Bring your parents/guardian and friends to meet other youth interested in being in the ride club and the Back Alley Bikes staff. Check out the flier below, if you click on it, you can download a pdf of the flier to put up at your school or home as a reminder. See you on the 4th!
