Before I forget I want to thank everyone that continues to help us out. I recently reported about what a great year 2011 was for The Hub of Detroit. There is so much work we want to do and with your support, it is all becoming a reality.

So we are only a few weeks into this odd year (is it spring right now?) and we are already receiving an outpouring of support. I sent out a newsletter to the folks signed up on our email list letting them know about our plans to renovate the bathroom in the Back Alley Bikes Space. It didn’t take long for everyone’s generosity to pour over us. Either people really like us or they really hate the bathroom the way it currently is. I personally like the bathroom (though it could use some cleaning) so I’m gonna go with the first option: people really like us.

We had a few individuals donate significant amounts of money and bathroom materials to us as well as our friends who are students at the Wayne State Medical School stepping up to help us out. Also, our 2012 calendar fund raiser was a huge success. If you didn’t get a calendar from the Hub for 2012, it is too late, they are all gone! With all this success going on, we should begin construction on fixing up the bathroom within the next two weeks. Thank you so much!  We weren’t sure how long this project would take us, but it is appearing to be less time than we originally thought.

If you weren’t able to help contribute to the bathroom fund, let me give you a sneak peek of what is on the horizon…

On Friday, February 17th we will be having another benefit concert in Back Alley Bikes. Sagan Youth will be returning along with Cloud Rat. Jack is already practicing the recorder. Joey may perform again as perhaps some other collective members if I can convince them. $5 to get in. Closer to the date I’ll let you know what time everything will be going down.  Put it on your calendar!

In late March or April we will be having our annual Open House to show people around the space and explain our programs. Around the same time we will be bringing back the bike art auction that was done here years ago. More details about that will be coming soon!

Rock ‘n Roll show, art auction and open house on the horizon. Of course we will continue to offer our mechanic classes to adults and running Earn-a-Bike for our youth year round!
Keep your eyes open and the rubber to the road.

See ya’ll soon!
