Alright,
So once again I’m denying you that profile you want to read. A big thanks goes out to Carolyn who wrote the first Detroit cyclist profile. I will not let you down though, I promise you that I have one in the works. I’ve been talking to my friend Thomas and in his words, “I think we got a big story here.”
I think HE has a big story. Thomas has been living car free and riding bikes longer than I’ve been alive. He has been doing it in Detroit and he has much to say about the recent bus cuts.
I think Thomas is the a great image for Detroit cycling. When I think of Detroit and bikes, I think of Thomas among other folks. So hopefully that profile will be coming down the line in another week. I promise you it will be great.
In the meantime, I’ve been busy and that is why I’m leaving you with this empty text this week. Thomas and I have failed to meet up and get something on paper because I’ve been getting ready for tonight’s Benefit Concert which has taken some time.
Yesterday James and I got to go out to Cody High School on the West Side after being invited by City Year Detroit. They were having an event where we got to donate a bike for auction. We met some young folks that hopefully we’ll be seeing at the shop very soon.
We also got to see some spoken word presentations from youth at the school. All of them were great but a few really stuck out to me. It just reminded me how amazing that youth in Detroit are. So lets get them on bikes and writing their own stories!
I’ve also been trying to finalize some warm season plans for the shop. I’m looking at what are programming staff is going to look like, what our program schedule is going to look like, how much it is going to cost and how we are going to raise all that money. It is quite the task.
So by Sunday I hope to have a presentation for the collective to get things moving. This means I will eventuallly be able to share the information with you too. This means, a date for our open house, the spring progressive dinner, when we will start our weekly youth rides, when we will start giving out applications for our mechanics in training program and other big plans for this year.
I wish I could be sorry that February has been such a slow month for news, but I’m not! I’ve been working hard to make sure that March is jam packed with good news and good plans as we move ahead into 2012. (Strike that, WE – all of us at the Hub have been busy)
So take February off everyone – We’ve got big plans for you this coming year!
(and by take February off, I mean AFTER you come to the concert tonight!)
see you soon,
