As I mentioned in this post asking you for bikes, I plan on keeping you updated on bikes donated towards our goal as well as updates on how our youth programs have been going.  So let’s break this down:

Bikes donated since June 29th:
198,
So we only have 102 more to go!  We are at the halfway point time wise, but bike wise we are 2/3 of the way there!

*Note after looking at last week’s number and comparing it with my records, I found that I was off by just a few bikes.  The good news is that I adjusted it this week and I was short three bikes.  So we doing even better than I had reported.  Anyway, read on.

Youth Earn-a-Bike:
I’m going to update you on our year-to-date data to get you started before I start updating you week to week. Between January 1st and July 27th there were 106 bikes earned by youth.

In the past week 6 more bikes have been earned bringing the total to 112 bikes

Youth Give-a-Way:
The Hub gives away bikes to youth younger than 7 years old since they are too young to begin working with tools.  Between January 1st and July 26th 40 bikes have been given away to youth younger than 7 years old.

In the past week I got to go out to Gardner Elementary School on the West Side and give 21 bikes out to youth there.  Also, as our volunteer Tim and I were loading up a trailer full of bikes this 6 year old named Lamar asked us how much the bikes cost.  We told him “free” and found an extra one we had built up.  So that brings the total for the week to 22 bikes.

So that is 62 bikes year to date going out to youth younger than 7 years old.  It looks like we might be able to give out a few more at the end of August working with another school.  Keep an eye out for that.

Community Partnerships:
The Hub often works with other groups like City Year, the Mt. Elliot Makerspace and other groups that work with youth.  Sometimes when we can and they ask, we give them bikes.  Between January 1st and July 27th we were able to give out 67 bikes that made their way to youth through our partners.

In the past week there haven’t been anymore bikes going out to partners.  Heck, if we had the bikes to spare we wouldn’t be doing this drive right?
