I’ve only been on two bicycle tours before. I’ve also gone on tours in a van with a bunch of musicians a few years back. Both had their own way of connecting me to something completely magical. There is nothing like waking up in a new town everyday for a completely new adventure. You never know who you are going to meet and most (if not all) of the time you find that people can be really kind.
On my bike tours, the farthest I went was about 850 miles round trip. It was a good bike ride, but many people have gone SO much farther. I am jealous of those folks. In fact I’ve been talking with some friends about doing a tour at the end of this summer and I really can’t wait.
Enough about me though, let me talk about someone I’m currently jealous of. I’m talking about our friend JT of the L.I.V.E. Campaign to reduce violence and bullying in schools. JT took off on a bike donated by the Hub to talk with people (particularly youth) around the country about positive self-image and ending bullying.
Well, I wanted to do this update because I checked in with JT and he has posted a bunch of photos and videos on his facebook and twitter feed. Whether you are into his cause, bike tours or both, it is really nice to see these photos. I know for myself, seeing these photos of JT out on the road reminds me of the freedom of just riding and not being sure where you will end up. Moving like the wind.
JT is wrapping up his tour and will be back in Detroit soon. I’m pretty sure we’ve got him convinced to come ride with our youth as part of one of our Saturday Youth Rides! So keep your eye on this website to know when JT will be coming around to speak with folks and share his experience.
Until then, I really recommend looking through that twitter photo gallery set up by JT. Below is one of JT’s photos of the bike he has been riding all loaded up.
