Hey ya’ll,
So I got some fresh information for you from the Back Alley Bikes office. We are excited to have partnered with the Detroit Public Library’s HYPE Teen Center over the past year to provide a program called Bike Tech.
Bike Tech is a program for teens that takes place at the HYPE Teen Center located in the Main Branch of the Detroit Public Library on Tuesday afternoons from 4-6pm. Since December, the program has not been happening.
I’m happy to announce that Bike Tech will be back on March 26th! The current plans are for the program to start on the 26th and continue weekly through the entire summer (and hopefully through the fall as well).

Check out this photo of the program from Library Journal!

So what is Bike Tech and why should I go?
Again, Bike Tech is for teens. If you are a teen and like bicycles, Bike Tech is for you. Each session will explore a part of bicycle culture. As a group not only will you explore parts of the bicycle through mechanics but also talk about different types of bikes, how they are used, talk about cars, talk about laws and most importantly – talk about how bicycles have and will shape Detroit.

So come and get some of these questions answered:

  1. How do I patch a flat tire?
  2. Why should I ride a bike in the ‘Motor City’?
  3. Should I ride with or against traffic?
  4. Sure bikes are okay for kids, but how do adults use bikes?
  5. How can I get paid to ride my bike?
  6. What are the laws for riding a bike?
  7. How fast can I go in a race against my friends?

So if you need something to do after school on Tuesdays…see ya at the library!
