Back Alley Bikes is hiring for a part time position 12 hours a week for program support. This staff member will make $10 per hour.

Work tasks will include:

  • Instructing and engaging youth at our Bike Tech program in the Detroit Main Public Library
  • Assist in coordinating volunteer tasks during our weekly volunteer nights
  • Facilitating our ally time shop hours as a lead mechanic and space steward
  • Instruction in bicycle mechanics and culture

Occasional work on Saturday or Sunday afternoons may also be available.

Back Alley Bikes is a Michigan non-profit bike shop that uses bicycles to engage and educate the public through youth development, sustainable practices and community access.

Ideal applicants have:

  • Strong understanding of bicycle parts
  • Basic understanding of bicycle mechanics
  • Strong communications skills are a necessity
  • Previous experience with our organization is preferable but not required
  • Previous experience working with youth is strongly preferred
  • You must be able to provide a central registry clearance from the Department of Human Services
