Hey everyone,

If you are interested in one day having a dumb picture of you working with bikes posted on this website, this is your day. No, but seriously, we are looking for a few more folks to work for Back Alley Bikes. Of course you can always volunteer, but if you want to get paid to do this stuff, you will want to keep reading.
Note that this is a job for Back Alley Bikes. We are looking for coordinators and teachers, not mechanics or salespeople like they were doing at The Hub earlier this year. Yeah, you need mechanic skills, but more importantly can you teach those skills to others?—————————————————————————————————————————————

Job Posting for Back Alley Bikes
Back Alley Bikes is a non-profit community bike shop with a focus on youth development, sustainable practices and community access. Bicycles are used as a tool to engage and empower youth in a hands on exploratory space.

Back Alley Bikes is also looking to hire two Program Leaders.

Program Leaders will:

  • Assist with Youth Earn-a-Bike and Youth Drop-In
  • Assist with Volunteer Night Coordination
  • Lead Youth Rides with the Youth Rides Club
  • Lead the Bike Tech program at the Detroit Public Library
  • Teach Adult Mechanic Classes

Skills/Experience Desired:

  • Experience with youth (ages 8-17 years old)
  • Trust in youth
  • Comfort working with diverse populations
  • Teaching experience
  • Group bicycle riding experience
  • Organization and coordination experience with groups
  • Familiarity with bicycles, bicycle parts and bicycle tools

Schedule will vary but Saturdays will be required for both program leaders to be available.

Positions start in May and go through the end of August.

Positions start at around 5-10 hours per week in May and increase to 15-20 hours a week June-August

Both positions pay $10/hour.
