Hello volunteers!
If you missed February or were only around for part of it, let me tell you about it:
– The “parts hallway” is now cleaned up. It has some work to go but there aren’t piles of debris on the ground. It is beautiful.
– We scrapped over $400 worth of metal. This gives up more space in the warehouse (goodbye trashed wheels!) We can now make 2011 a year where we build more bikes and make more art than we throw away or recycle.
– We built and populated a few more wheel racks in the warehouse!
– We now have a library space upstairs!
We probably did a lot more, but I’ll leave it there. However, I would like to talk about that last point for a minute:
When we moved a large amount of scrap out of the shop this cleared out a large area. We moved trash out and I wanted to put something useful in. So I put in some seating, a few shelves and then put books around. If you have bike books that you want to donate, please bring them in! We got shelves to fill!
If you come to the shop you will also notice that the workshop has been feng shuied and everything got moved around. Hopefully this will make the workshop easier to use and will also keep it cleaner. In the future we will hopefully get new workbenches which will make life even easier on everyone. But I’m getting ahead of myself so I should talk about March…
IT IS MARCH 1ST AND WE ARE ALMOST OUT OF WINTER!! For those of us that put our bikes away, we are itching to ride. The rest of us that have been riding all winter are eager to not worry about ice patches while turning and to show off how fast we are to those that have been out of the saddle for a few months. Either way, things are getting exciting and WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!
As mentioned, the space has been reorganized some.
– We need artists to decorate and paint the space.
– We need sorters to continue to keep our newly organized spaces in line as we get more donations.
– We need people good with youth to work with our Youth Earn-a-Bike program as we will see more kids showing up as the weather gets warmer.
– We need more artists to work on a SPECIAL PROJECT that I’ll talk about below…
On the twentieth of March, we will be taking part in the “Marche du Nain Rouge”. This is a local event that I can’t fully explain here, so just search engine it. Anyway, we will be decorating one of our wooden bike trailers to act like a float in the Marche. And we need people to help design and decorate it.
If you are interested in decorating/designing the float, please come to the volunteer meeting on Thursday, March 3rd from 7pm-8pm.
okay, is that enough information? I hope so. Let’s have fun.
see you soon,
