As you may know, we had a really great time on Noel Night. Part of the party was an art auction. This was our first time throwing such an event. With that said it was a huge success, but next year we plan to do a little better.
What I’m trying to say is that we ended up with art not sold. Now, as you will see below, this has nothing to do with the quality of art, but more the fact that we’ve never done this before. Also, maybe you weren’t at our shop on Noel Night or didn’t have a chance to bid on this art. So, now here is your chance.
First, let me mention that I photographed this art with our digital camera we got for free. I’m not a professional art photographer, so to all these artist – forgive me for my bad photos, but I wanted to give folks an idea of what is available. To the viewers out there, this art doesn’t look bad, but the photographs don’t quite do it justice. This stuff is great.

First up is “Tryk” by Kate Paul. This one of a kind print is mounted on a 13″ x 19″ board. At the art auction, the starting bid was $40. A total steal.

“Two Girls” by Gwen Joy is an acrylic painting on wood measuring 2′ x 10″. It also has some red fur fringe added to the corners of the painting. At the auction we were asking for a starting bid of only $15. I have a feeling I’m going to call all of these art pieces a steal.

Photographer and cyclists Melanie Schmitt donated a few shots to us. These are the ones left as the others got snatched up. The Detroit by Bike series expresses Melanie’s love for cycling that she discovered after moving to Detroit from Wisconsin 4 years ago.
The two smaller frames are 8″ x 10″ and the larger frame is 13″ x 17″.
Another steal – starting bid of $35.

“Fido” is a dog made out of bike parts. This piece of art was done by Tumaye Gessesse, one of our youth volunteers. Tumaye comes over to our shop on a weekly basis after school from the Detroit School of the Arts and helps us out with all sorts of projects at the shop, including making art.
Starting bid? $25. They always say a dog will be your best friend. Find Fido a home.

An Oloid is a magical thing. The artist that made this Oloid out of bike wheels, James McMullen, can explain this magical shape to you much better than I can. So check out the link explaining the math of this shape.
James submitted three Oloids to the auction and this is the only one left. Starting bid – $30
Finally we have a sketch by Hamilton Poe titled “Inside my Mind”. There is a whole lot going on inside of Ham’s head. This 42″ x 35″ sketch has a lot of details all layer into it. This was very hard to photograph with the camera I had. Feel free to click on the picture below for a link to a larger version of the photo.
Starting bid – $50. You know what this is? A steal.

Again, let us know if you are interested in any of this art! They all need homes to live in!
