Hey Ya’ll,So this won’t be the last time you hear about this, but let me get this out there now. Bike the Blizzard is coming. What is Bike the Blizzard? Well, it is a fundraising Bike-a-Thon to benefit Back Alley Bikes that is a whole ton of fun.

You see, this will be our second year of choosing a Sunday in January and riding as many miles as we can to raise some funds. There is no rain date, there is no snow date…there is only January 26th, 2014.

I guess I should back up a little bit with this language. You see, it is sounding really tough and rugged of a ride right? Well, if you are considering donating to the ride, then that is what I want you to believe.
However, if you are thinking about riding with us, then consider a few things:

  1. Riding in the winter isn’t all that hard. Part of this ride is to show that bicycling is a year round activity, even here in Michigan.
  2. You don’t have to ride all 24 hours. Having someone out on the streets for all 24 hours makes the spectacle more grand, but if you only have a few hours, please join us! Though, the forming of teams to cover the whole 24 hours is highly encouraged!
  3. Ride your own pace! In 2013 people rode as little as 20 and as many as 110 miles. Make your own goal and ride your own pace.
  4. This isn’t a race. In 2013 we found that this event is much more of a bonding experience than anything. Folks that only rode 20 miles did laps with those going for 110. We took breaks and chatted with each other. A few of us had the privilege of riding the stillness of 3am in the Cass Corridor that only winter can provide.

So come Bike the Blizzard with us! Or at least consider donating to the cause and enjoy staying at home in the warmth while knowing you contributed!
