In this record setting year we’ve received more bicycle donations than ever. Many of them are 20” and smaller bikes meant to be ridden by children 7 years old and younger. Because of their size, these bikes will not go out through our regular Youth Earn-a-Bike sessions.

This is where you come in.

We need organizations that work with youth. Hospitals, schools, places or worship, community non-profits…we are seeking you out to help get these bikes to kids.

To be eligible to partner, here is what you need:

  • A pool of youth 7 years old and younger that are also less than 56” tall (any taller and these bikes won’t fit the kids).
  • Particularly we are looking to get these bikes to youth and families that otherwise would not be able to afford a bicycle, but Back Alley Bikes does not ask for income verification.
  • Be able to provide a list of the youth as well as their heights (to ensure bike fit).
  • Have a date where families can arrive to pick up their bikes.
  • The ability to assist with transporting the finished bicycles isn’t necessary, but is a plus.
  • The ability to provide pictures of the youth with their bikes for Back Alley Bikes use isn’t necessary, but is a plus.

So you think you can fulfill the above points? If you would like to partner with Back Alley Bikes, please contact us to discuss how many bikes you are looking to give away. We will then need the list of youth and their heights to ensure we have enough of each size bike available.

Once the number of bikes is confirmed, the staff at Back Alley Bikes can assist in scheduling a day for the Give-a-Way where all the families can come to a convenient location to pick the bikes up. If possible, Back Alley Bikes staff will be on hand at the Give-a-Way event to assist the youth in sizing the bike to fit them.

After you gather the list of youth with their heights, Back Alley Bikes can take it from there. Give us a call at 313.879.5072 or email Jason (at) thehubofdetroit.org with any questions.
