Hey Everyone,
So I’m back.  I’m back to updating the website every Friday.  Suddenly it is summer or something and I want to tell you everything about the bike shop.  But you won’t be able to take it all in at once so I’m going to update you about exciting new shop improvements slowly each week.

Two weeks ago I wrote about the Adult Mechanic Class
Last week I wrote about our Youth Rides

So lets get on to this weeks topic:

Youth Earn-a-Bike

Youth Earn-a-Bike is our main program.  It seems that we never have a problem getting youth in the door to work on bikes.  Even since we started running the program year round a few years ago we still get youth coming to the shop in the cold of February.  However, the summer remains the busiest time.  Because of that, we are going to try something a little different this year.

Saturdays will remain the same as usual.  From 12pm-3pm the shop will be open for youth aged 8-16 to come in and work on their bikes or to work towards earning a free bike here.  Of course a signed permission slip is required.  In the summer there is the advantage of our Mechanic in Training students being on hand so youth can learn from other youth.
But fear not, we are not changing the way Saturdays work at all.

What is new, is our mid-week earn-a-bike.  Since Saturdays are “first come, first serve” we can get full very quickly if one parent brings a group of kids with them.  So to those folks that have a group of neighborhood kids, boy scouts, girl scouts, afterschool clubs and other groups we would like to schedule your group during the week.
Here is how it works:  If you have a group of up to six youth, we can schedule a mid-week session (Tues-Thurs) where your group will come to the shop for 3 hours each day, 3 days in a row.  Your group will be guaranteed a spot to work as long as you can commit to coming three days in a row.  The whole group will work on their bikes together in the form of organized lessons so everyone will have their bikes finished by the end of the day Thursday.

If you have a group you would like to schedule for a mid-week earn-a-bike session, call our programming office at 313.879.5072 to schedule your group.

If you have only one or two children that would like to attend a mid-week session still give us a call, because we may have an open stand we can put your child on with another group.

If your group or child cannot attend mid-week sessions don’t worry – Saturdays will still be open all year long.
