Hey Everyone,
So I’m back.  I’m back to updating the website every Friday.  Suddenly it is spring or something and I want to tell you everything about the bike shop.  But you won’t be able to take it all in at once so I’m going to update you about exciting new shop improvements slowly each week.

Last week I wrote about the Adult Mechanic Class.  So now onto this week…

Youth Rides
Last summer we did a youth ride every month.  That was more than we had done in a while.  Over the past few years we have been reworking our programming and improving the shop.  We were so busy that we only worked on bikes and forgot that riding them is fun too!

This year we have dedicated programming staff, a solid youth program and the drive to do more.  So, the easiest thing to do is get on a bike and celebrate!  This year we will be doing a youth ride weekly all summer long.  Every week from the 26th of May to the 1st of September we will be doing youth rides.

This is how they are going to work.  At 3pm everyone (youth and adult volunteers) can begin gathering in the back alley.  Once everyone is gathered there will be a short safety talk.  Folks of all ages will be required to follow the rules of the road to be a part of our rides and helmets will be required as well.  For youth, there will need to be a permission slip signed by a guardian unless they show up and ride with a guardian.

The rides will be short (about 5 miles total) at a pace that folks of all ages can keep up with.  We will be riding through neighborhoods to a new destination point each week to demonstrate that not only are bikes fun to ride, but they get you places too.  Bikes are transportation.  We are traffic.

If you are interested in volunteering on the rides or have youth that you want to get involved (or if you are between 8 and 16 years old and you want to get involved) contact us!
